English Elite Team Activities

 

FutureGEN Girls Leadership Summit 2023 & IdeaGO Ideathon Final

Venue: Hong Kong Palace Museum, West Kowloon Cultural District

 

Nine students from S3-S6 participated in the FutureGEN Girls Leadership Summit 2023, organised by the Jennifer Yu Cheng Girls Impact Foundation (JYCGIF). Among them, three girls representing LFC presented on stage in the IdeaGO Ideathon Finals, of which only 5 teams amidst 12 could progress into.

Team Sort-N-Paper, composed of Mok YS, Ma LY and Lau TMA from S3, seeks to address issues regarding sustainability. They developed the idea and prototype of a paper-sorting machine in the hope of encouraging communities to reuse paper and reduce waste.

Under the guidance of industry professionals, they have learned to adopt design thinking and Innovation and Technology to formulate solutions and mock-ups to promote health and wellbeing, sustainability (low carbon & green living) and combat challenges faced by women in society. They have also obtained a deeper understanding of I&T, new industrialisation and entrepreneurship.

 

 

HKSTP x JYCGIF IdeaGO Ideathon 2023 (Day 1)

The HKSTP x JYCGIF IdeaGO Ideathon 2023 jointly organised by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and Jennifer Yu Cheng Girls Impact Foundation (JYCGIF), will be held from 11 July to 4 Nov 2023. Under the guidance of industry professionals, participants representing secondary schools or NGOs will learn and adopt design thinking and Innovation and Technology to formulate solutions and mockups/prototypes to address health and wellbeing, sustainability and challenges faced by women in society. 4 LFC girls will compete as a team to propose innovative end-to-end solutions in this pilot Ideathon. They will come away from the experience with a deeper understanding of and interest in I&T, new industrialisation and entrepreneurship.

 

CareerXplorer Program – Hangseng Bank Central Workshop

Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Venue: Hangseng Bank, Central

 

11 LFC students gathered at the headquarters of Hangseng Bank to participate in the CareerXplorer Program. Through the sharing sessions, fireside chat and the workplace tour, students learnt about the trend of fintech and creative technology as well as meeting creative and well-experienced professionals who worked in HSBC. The program empowered teen girls to be ‘future-ready’ and have a clearer insight on their future career path.

                                                                            

The Harvard Book Prize 2023

Organized by the Harvard Club of Hong Kong, the Harvard Book Prize is a prestigious territory-wide award presented to eligible students in the next-to-graduating class. A long-standing tradition to encourage students demonstrating outstanding personal qualities, academic competency and a will to contribute, it serves to commend brilliance and introduce intellectually-stimulating books into the youth’s view. This year, candidates with their eyes on the Essay Prize were asked to open up about their experience in forming a community or tribe, echoing the title of the selected Prize Book of the year. Three S5 LFC winners picked up their awards on 2 Jun, 2023. Congratulations!

 

 

The Law Society of Hong Kong - Basic Law Talk and The National Security Law Talk

10 LFC students students attended the Basic Law Talk and The National Security Law Talk, where the vice president and ex-president of The Law Society of Hong Kong elaborated on the Constitutional Basis, Basic Law, and the recently implemented National Security Law. They clarified the misleading claims of Hong Kong's Rule of Law and reassured the students with the significance of the National Security Law. 2 students also won the Outstanding Award for their attentive and active behavior.

 

CareerXplorer Program – Bloomberg Corporate Workshop

The CareerXplorer Program aims at empowering girls to become ‘future-ready’. 16 LFC students partook in the Bloomberg Corporate Workshop comprising a panel discussion, resume writing session and mock interview. Prospects were expanded by the introduction of the intricate web of skills intertwined with technology and finance, furnishing our female students with a clearer vision into their career paths as well as the knowledge, insights, and skills essential for weathering the future.

 

The Law Society of Hong Kong – Anti-crime School Talk

 

Date: 18 May 2023

Time: 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Venue: School Assembly Hall

 

LFC S4 students were joined by HYC S4 students in a 1-hour talk conducted by The Law Society Hong Kong. The highly informative talk given by a renowned solicitor, Miss Isabella Chan, focused on addressing the issue of fraud, harassment and cybercrime among teens. The talk was part of Law Society’s effort to apprise youngsters of the details of common types of crime, thus cultivating the law-abiding spirit and legal awareness of adolescents in Hong Kong.

 

HKFYG English Public Speaking Contest 2023

Venue: The HKFYG Leadership Institute, 302 Jockey Club Road, Fanling

 

This year, over 200 hundred LFC students participated in the HKFYG English Public Speaking Contest 2023 to polish their presentation skills. Among the participants, six students got the Certificate of Good Performance and ten students proceeded to the District Semi-finals. Moreover, our school received the Commendation Award for Most Active School Participation again for the 10th time.

 

 

 

The 74th English Speech Festival

 

Date: November to December 2022

 

Over 250 LFC students participated in various events of the The 74th English Speech Festival this academic year. We have attained marvelous results, in which 2 students were awarded First Places, 9 students were awarded Second Places, and 9 students were awarded Third Places. One S6 student was the champion of Class N195 Public Speaking and she was invited to take part in an audition for International Public Speaking Competition 2023.

 

Chinese New Year Carnival (Year of The Rabbit) Game Booths

Venue: LFC Covered Playground

 

English Elite Team members held five different fun game booths during the Chinese New Year Carnival (Year of the Rabbit) to promote learning English during the festival season. Each form of S1-S5 devised a unique game booth and prepared everything from scratch. Other fellow students enjoyed a fruitful, exhilarating and intriguing moment together with our team members.

 

The Law Society of Hong Kong – Sports, Law and Discipline Sports and Music Carnival

50 LFC students partook in The Law Society of Hong Kong – Sports, Law and Discipline Sports and Music Carnival and met important government officials, heads of disciplined services departments, Legco members, as well as veteran lawyers. Not only were they stunned by the marvelous sports demonstration of elite athletes, but they also learnt legal knowledge and developed a deeper understanding of the law system through experiential learning, group discussion and game booths.

 

 

HKU Legal Academy Student Chapters 2022

HKU Legal Academy Student Chapters is a ground-breaking initiative that aims to offer year-round workshops for equipping students with legal knowledge in the field of copyright, and most importantly, letting them have a taste of authentic university education at HKU. Our students won the First Runner-up in the Knowledge Exchange Competition of HKU Legal Academy Student Chapters 2022. Congratulations!

 

 

Life Planning Education Conference

Venue: Kowloon Bay International Trade & Exhibition Centre (KITEC)

 

The Education Bureau (EDB) held the Life Planning Education Conference in person and online in parallel on November 11, attracting about 1 100 local and Mainland education practitioners and representatives of partner organisations of the Business-School Partnership Programme (BSPP) to join. The participants took the opportunity to share their experience and enhance professional capacity in life planning education where our students served as helpers at this meaning conference.

 

 

 

 

 

FutureGEN Girls Leadership Summit 2022

The summit theme this year – “A Journey to Your Near Future” – beams teen girls up to a future of their own making! The conference draws students to keynote addresses and panel discussions led by women trailblazers and industry leaders, as well as skill-building workshops that explore both the power and versatility of technology and core leadership values. Our female students attending the summit feel empowered to fulfil their boundless potential, connected to their peers, and motivated to start their own clubs, businesses, or interest groups!

 

 

 

Abide by the Law Legal Forum: Drug Traps

Our students attended the “Abide By The Law Legal Forum: Drug Traps” organized by The Law Society of Hong Kong and Narcotics Division, Security Bureau on 24 September at the Large Moot Court in The University of Hong Kong. The forum was part of the Law Society’s effort to cultivate the law-abiding spirit and legal awareness among youngsters in the context of addressing the problem of drug abuse.
