Exchange with Liceo Bertrand Russell (Italy)

The School Leceo Bertrand Russell (http://www.liceorussell.eu/) from Italy will be paying a visit to our school from 18 September to 30 September. A team of 15 students and 2 teachers will experience the school life at PLKLFC and students will also live the lifestyle of HK by living with host families.


During the exchange, there are FOUR focuses in the itinerary:


(1) Cultural exchange (language, food, art & music);
(2) Knowing more about Hong Kong;
(3) Experience HK secondary school life, and
(4) The recent development of renewal energy in Hong Kong

The itinerary:

Date Activities
18/9 (Sun) LBR arrives at Hong Kong
• LBR students pick up by host families at LFC
• Activities arranged by host families
19/9 (Mon) • Welcoming assembly
 Introduction of LFC, Hong Kong and the programme
LFC students will briefly introduce the school, Hong Kong and the activities of the programme
• Activity 1: Experience to HK school life
Lesson observation
• Activity 2: Cultural exchange
Exposure to the languages
Teachers of LFC teach LBR students writing Chinese calligraphy and some simple Putonghua; while LBR students teach LFC students some simple Italian
20/9 (Tue) • Activity 3: Cultural exchange
Exposure to the food

(1) Breakfast at Chinese restaurant
LBR students are taken to the Chinese restaurant to try traditional Cantonese Dim Sum and learn the use of chopsticks
(2) A walk to wet market

After the breakfast, students visit to a wet market and a supermarket for exposure
 Activity 4: LFC school life
Inter-school basketball game
Teams from both school will participate in the game
• Activity 5: Cultural exchange
Exposure to culinary arts
Teacher of LFC will teach LBR students a festive food (mooncake: pastry served in Mid-autumn Festival); while LBR students will demonstrate an Italian dish to LFC students
21/9 (Wed) • Activity 6: Exposure to Hong Kong
Visit to Hong Kong Museum of History
(1) A place to show the history of Hong Kong with permanent and special exhibition showcase done by the Museum staff in the past years in collecting, preserving and researching the history and development of Hong Kong.
Activity 7: Exposure to science
Visit to Hong Kong Science Museum
About 500 exhibits are being displayed in the permanent exhibition area. The most prominent exhibit is the 22-m high twin-tower Energy Machine which is the largest of its kind in the world. A total of 16 galleries cover a wide range of science and technology topics including light, sound, motion, electricity and magnetism, mathematics, life science, transportation, telecommunication, food science, energy, occupational safety and health and home technology. About 70% of the exhibits are participatory so that visitors may learn through direct involvement.
22/9 (Thu) • Activity 8: The sustainable energy development in HK
Visit to Exhibition Gallery, Electronic and Mechanical Services Department, Hong Kong (EMSD)
The exhibition gallery is intended to promote awareness of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies and to introduce the work of EMSD through the use of interactive exhibits. The exhibition gallery on G/F contains 17 nos. of exhibits to introduce the energy efficiency and renewable energy features, and the initiatives of EMSD on sustainable development. The exhibition area on 7/F contains 4 nos. of exhibits to introduce the work of EMSD in electrical, amusement ride, gas and lifts & escalators safety. The viewing gallery on roof displays the photovoltaic panels and wind turbine.
23/9 (Fri) Activity 9: Other sustainable development in Hong Kong
Visit to the Ocean Park, Hong Kong for an educational programme about water resource
Students will take a programme by the staff of the Ocean Park which covers the pros and cons of hydroelectric power (renewable energy) through a role play in the last part of the course.
Activity 10: Use of sustainable energy in Hong Kong
Visit to Hong Kong public estates
To find out the use and suitability of Renewable energy Installations in Hong Kong
24/9 (Sat) • Activities arranged by host families
25/9 (Sun) • Activities arranged by host families
26/9 (Mon) • Activity 11: Wind energy in Hong Kong
Visit to the wind power station in Lamma Island
To explore to the first commercial-scale wind power station in Hong Kong. There is an Exhibition Centre introducing the station as well as major types of renewable energy and their applications in Hong Kong and other parts of the world
27/9 (Tue) • Activity 12: Art exchange
Making a traditional Chinese Arts craft
Our Visual Arts teacher will teach LBR students a traditional Chinese Arts craft which they could bring it back to Italy to share with their families

28/9 (Wed) Activity 13: Exposure to traditional Chinese architecture
A visit to Wong Tai Sin Temple and Chi Lin Nunnery
The two tourist spots are built in the way of traditional Chinese architecture.
The Temple used to be a private shrine. In 1934, Sik Sik Yuen formally applied to the government for opening the temple to the public during Chinese New Year. In 1956, permission was obtained for the temple to open to the public for worshiping.
The Garden is built in the classical style of the Tang Dynasty (618 AD to 907 AD), on the blue print of Jiangshouju, the only Tang landscape garden the original layout of which can still be placed and traced today, and the shape of which bears a significant resemblance to the Garden site.
